Further Education and Training (FET) Service
Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) is the largest education and training provider in Co Donegal. Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training (FET) Service provides a wide range of courses to over 11,000 learners on an annual basis. It is particularly skilled at engaging with employers to deliver education and training that meets the needs of local industry; its bespoke courses develop the skills and competencies of learners which can be applied locally, nationally and internationally. As many of our courses have been developed in conjunction with industry, this ensures our courses are up to date in a rapidly changing environment.
Donegal ETB has developed a number of bespoke Traineeships as well as Specific Skills Training to meet the needs of the FinTech sector in Donegal, those seeking employment, along with those already in employment who are looking to upskill. These include Automated Software Tester, Digital Sales and Marketing, Software Developer, Cloud Platform and Infrastructure and Women into Software.
Donegal ETB’s FET Service also works closely with employers under the national Skills to Advance: Employee Development Strategy to develop and deliver education and training programmes to provide the labour market with a skilled and diverse work force.
Siobhan Dempsey, Digital Sales and Marketing Traineeship
Siobhan Dempsey completed Donegal ETB’s Digital Sales and Marketing Traineeship in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it. She undertook this course as she had a business idea in mind and wanted to learn how to promote it, especially in a digital capacity.
Siobhan told us, “I was particularly interested in the Website Content Management module so that I could build and maintain my own website. The course delivered on this and far exceeded my expectations. With modules in Marketing and Evaluation, Social Media Advertising, Search
Engine Marketing, Online Display Marketing, Video Software and Keyword Optimisation, I feel well equipped to promote and market my own business.”
Conor Lillis, Software Developer
Conor Lillis is currently studying for Donegal ETB’s one-year software developer specific skills training course. He always wanted to study at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) but was unsuccessful in achieving the Leaving Certificate results that he needed for the course he wanted to study there. He started studying Computing at Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) for one year but in his own words, “I still had the urge to get to Galway. This course [with Donegal ETB] was recommended by a friend and after some research and the help of staff in Donegal ETB I found that I would be able to attend first year in GMIT if I successfully completing this course.” So he changed courses.
Conor told us, “The course is at a very controlled and student-friendly pace. The staff in Donegal ETB are very helpful with any queries I have. The aspect I enjoy the most is the environment in the ETB - the course gives a lot more one on one learning with the lecturer, something that you would rarely get in colleges.”
He plans to progress onto third level education in GMIT to continue studying Software Developing after he completes his one year course with Donegal ETB, “I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in computers and looking to get to college or full-time employment. The course is very student friendly and extremely supportive.”
Donegal ETB’s FET Service offers a wide range of quality assured accredited and non-accredited programmes. The majority of the certification our FET service provides is aligned on the National Framework of Qualifications at Levels 1-6 through Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) and a range of industry recognised awards including Microsoft, CompTia and Oracle.
